Tegan Admits There Was a Short Period of Time When She Wanted Tegan and Sara To End

In 2009, before a show in Scotland, they were arguing back-stage, something about an interview Tegan didn’t want to do. They’d been going back and forth for about an hour when Sara, exhausted, says she “just hauled off and hit her.”

While it may fill the hearts of their devoted fans with fear and dread, Tegan Quin admits there was a short period of time nearly two years ago when she wanted Tegan and Sara to end.

Tegan and Sara were going through what could generously be called a rough patch. It all began with some record label troubles that are too “confusing and ridiculous” to fully explain here and was followed by a somewhat disastrous tour, Sara’s breakup with a longtime girlfriend and, finally, fisticuffs in Scotland.

“We went to Europe, it was cold, it was dark,” says Tegan Quin, in a phone interview from Vancouver. “Our bus broke down twice, we got into two bus accidents. And then, on week four, Sara just f——ing lost it on me and hauled off and punched me. That was the breaking point.”
