Filtered: Photos by Heathered Pearls

Heathered Pearls is the alias of Jakub Alexander: DJ, music curator of the IS050 Blog, and founder of Moodgadget Records. Not only is he one of the funniest people we know, he also happens to be a diehard Instagrammer.

For our new series entitled “Filtered,” we asked Jakub to pick a handful of his all-time favorite photos (see more after the jump) and answer a few questions about sharing.

“This was my first time using gorilla cam which gives you a timer so you can get in your shot, what was crazy was this seagull flew by right at the right time to interrupt it, such a better photo with him in it.”

“This is the girl in M83 singing live.”

“Snapped this one driving to Montreal on the Tycho tour.”

“Indoor plants within a wooden home by a gloomy window will look boring to me.”

“This is Zac Brown the bassist for Tycho taking a walk.”

“A photo of the New York skyline.”

“This is a junked car in some bushes, I just love the bright color scheme, usually everything comes out washed out."

[GI] Why do you take and share photos?
[Heathered Pearls] To get more followers duh! Just kidding. I do it because its just another outlet for creativity and personally its a pretty nice mental boost to be able to archive something you made which also reminds you were you’ve been.

[GI] What do you like most about Instagram?
[HP] Personally, I like the excitement of getting a good shot and then treating it with some different apps before it even touches instagram. Once i’m on instagram I just enjoy the community on there, I love seeing my friends post photos of places i’ve never been and posting photos of maybe a concert they are at right now and connecting people on there. I also enjoy searching for new photographers that I can share with on the ISO50 Blog community.

[GI] What is your favorite subject matter?
[HP] Its has to be a tie between found vintage graphics and layouts of certain older design or plants.

[GI] Any tips for other Instagrammers looking to develop their own style?
[HP] I would tell them to stay away from what they see on there, the popular trends and looks that everyone is doing isn’t something you have to do to get more followers or new friends. I’d dig deep and find out what you personally love because posting owls & wolves, triangles, goth shit and space isn’t really anyone I know but there sure is a lot that stuff on there.
