Finally in Barcelona

After mechanical delays and changing planes before we even started, It was a longer than expected travel to Barcelona with an extra stop through Frankfurt. But Carl and I have finally arrived and will be experiencing our first tastes of Catalonia this evening.

They say it is about the journey and on the way we some really nice people. We travelled all the way from LA to Barcelona with 3 incredible students who had just spent the summer at UCLA studying Political Science and Foreign Economies. On the overseas flight, I met an young woman from outside of Munich, occupational therapist, who worked as an au pair in San Francisco for the past year. She also originated on our mechanically and time-challenged LA flight. Also on the overseas flight was a woman who had lived in the US for the past 22 years, but was now retiring back to her home town in Poland.

During our travel, I finally had the opportunity to study the map and sights to see. Gaudi is on the top of our list, along with the multiple markets. Tonight we Carl and I enjoyed a relaxing tapas meal with garlic-chili shrimp, spinach and garbonzo beans, fried sardines, the local ham, and local red wine. As I have experienced before in Europe, water is more expensive than the local wine which was only 2.50€ per glass (yea, that’s about $2).

But to ward off the evil, we first visited the Barcelona Cathedral. You can never be too careful with the gods.
