The Center for Cartoon Studies is turning 10 this Fall! That’s me in the blue and the glasses center middle on our gut-churning first day in 2011, and then with the blue again in middle front row, screaming my head off joy alongside my classmates at our 2013 graduation. I’ve been pouring over my old photos and
sketchbooks and thinking about how lucky I am that I came across a
school like CCS at the perfect time in my life. That I could run away
to a small town in Vermont for two years to join some fellow nutjobs to share our love
of comics, and work together to build stories and friendships, and find
our path in the world. And that I could make a M.F.A out of that experience to boot!
I learned how to make a career out of this
stuff from some of the best teachers I’ve ever known, made deep and real
friendships, and drew, and wrote, and drew, and listened, and taught, and drew, and drew, and
walked, and drew, and wrote, and thought. If you’re thinking CCS ( cartoonstudies ) might
be the place for you - go, visit! They’re always open to toonies. Tour the campus! Lounge in the
library! Enroll in a summer course! It was the perfect place for me to
find my footing, and it could be for you too.
