Grub Burger Bar

Traveling has always been a passion of mine. Whether it’s down the street, or halfway across the world, I enjoy learning of new cultures and experiencing new cuisines. But, on the contrary, I also enjoy when a Scotty-like chef prepares a magical meal that beams me up into a another time, place, or dimension, without even leaving my home town. I’ve noticed in my search for the perfect burger, there are a lot of burger joints playing the safe card. What exactly does that mean? Their menus are just about as exciting as a WNBA game. Anyone can put bacon and cheese on a hamburger and the masses will come, factually giving a disgusting reason behind the 33,000+ McDonald’s spread around the globe. But taking the time to make fresh, intriguing ingredients, or locally/in-house ground beef and freshly baked buns is what makes the little guy different and unique.

Dallas is one of the many cities in Texas where a culinary passion is vividly painted into the minds of a handful of chefs. Of course the Big D is home to a few heavy hitters when it comes to burgers. Maple & Motor, Angry Dog, Ten Bells Tavern, Hopdoddy’s from Austin, and even the widely loved Twisted Root to name a few. It makes people ask themselves, “Is there room for another burger bar?” or “What’s so great about this one?” Well let me ask you one thing. If a tree falls in the forest does it make a noise? Does a bear defecate in the woods? Whenever Channing Tatum goes to the beach to lay out in the sun, does he prefer to be called Tanning Chatum? The answer is I don’t know. But guess what? There is a new burger joint in town that could easily get in the ring and square up with any of the restaurants I’ve mentioned, and it would be a bloody battle until the end. This place I’m speaking of is called Grub Burger Bar. Check it out!

Grub is one of the newest grub hubs to Dallas, conveniently located off of Greenville and University, about a mile and a half north from where all the drunktards like to bar hop. You know what one of my favorite parts about this company is? It was originated in the Lone Star State. Apparently the test market between 3 major cities in Texas was a success because this summer they are opening 5 more locations in Texas, Louisiana, Georgia and Pennsylvania. The inside has a casual upscale feel, which would be perfect for a date, a family, or a grabbing a killer burg while you watch the game at the bar. The prices are extremely fair, the brisket/chuck beef patties are ground in house and their big, fresh buns make even Kim Kardashian jealous. One skim through the menu and I knew which delectable creation I had to put in my mouth. Ladies and gentlemen, I am proud to introduce the Thai Peanut Burger.

The Thai Peanut Burger is exploding with peanut butter, roasted peanuts, cilantro lime coconut flakes, and Sambal mayo. This burger is a flying kick in the teeth. Upon first bite, you immediately taste the rich, gooeyness from the melted peanut butter. Just about every bite is complimented with a crunch from the roasted halves of peanuts. The cilantro lime coconut flakes had a sweet, light, tanginess that took a little density away from the peanut butter and brightened this wild, mind boggling dining experience back up. Then as you swallow every chomp of this sangwich, the Sambal mayo jumps in and leaves your tongue with a smooth fiery heat that is just unb-heat-able. If you are unfamiliar with Sambal, it is the red pepper sauce you see at every table in every Thai restaurant you’ve ever been to. Another compliment is headed to the freshly baked buns. It was a little more firm that most other buns, but I felt it was the perfect vessel to hold all the juices in and remain solid on the outside. I also went with a tasty side of sweet potato fries, which were crispy, sweet and warm, and oddly complimented my meatwich very well.

I decided I’m going to call this the Lance Armstrong of burgers because it keeps all the flavor-wheels on your head-bike turning, but it simply had more nuts…… Get it? Annnnnyways, I’m giving the TPB 4 very strong burgz, and it totally deems another visit.

With such a huge variety in their menu, Grub Burger will have everyone covered. Even those pesky vegetarians. I am very excited to see how this place does here in Dallas, and I’ll gladly suggest it to my friends. If you’re in the area, please do yourself a flavor and visit. You’ll thank me later!
