This is an olddd video, but it’s something I noticed in my first DA2 playthrough, and got reminded of it this time.
If you disable all the music and sound effects and whatnot in the Kirkwall Chantry, you’re left with this low humming sound.
Why is that noteworthy?
In the Dragon Age novels, the darkspawn are described as humming constantly, in a deep rising and falling tone — responding to the song of the Old Gods.
Some various snippets from The Calling:
- “The deep humming was coming from it. The creature was moaning softly, almost chanting, and this moan built upon the sounds of many others behind it in the shadows. They hummed in unison, a hushed and deadly whisper the creatures spoke as one.”
- “All Maric could hear was their ragged breathing and the droning hum of the approaching horde. There was a hunger to it, the sound rising and falling almost rhythmically.”
- “All he could hear was a rhythmic groan, a keening pitch that it seemed each of the darkspawn contributed to. The sound of it made his skin crawl, and he realized that the chorus in the distance responded to it.”
I’m sure they’re not connected, it’s just a coincidence. But it makes the humming in the Chantry extra creepy, doesn’t it?
Wouldn’t anders be able to hear that?
