Confession: Even though we spent more time talking the Origins cast and we were a bunch of badass world saving heroes, I feel as though the DA2 companions had something even better going for them: we were a weird sort of family. We (really) didn’t always get along but over the course of nearly a decade we tackled life, together.

There’s something special about the DA2 cast compared to other RPGs I’ve played, in that none of them signed up for this shit. It’s not like Origins or Mass Effect, no one stepped up to Hawke and said “I pledge my life to your quest to protect Kirkwall/save the mages/whatever.“ It was “hey I got a way for you to make a little coin if you help me out with this problem.”

They’re not held together by any noble desire to save the world, it’s purely friendship and respect. And if your relationship isn’t strong enough, of course they peace out when you want them to put their life on the line for something they don’t want.

*muffled sobbing*
