Smoked potato and poached egg ravioli with lightly roasted garlic emulsion (Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, Chelsea)

4/5 - Admittedly, by the time this reached me my appetite had waned and the spectre of fullness was hanging over me. I was delighted to find that the poached egg hidden inside the ravioli was perfectly oozing, but struggled to eat the whole thing - not just due to fullness, but because it was so rich. The potato puree was definitely smoky, and also a little unappealingly grainy when tasted on it’s own. Refreshingly vibrant smashed peas sheltering underneath provided much-needed relief from the heavy ravioli. Rather than garlic, the sauce smacked of parmesan, and had a lovely flavour that was sadly overpowered by smoke and yolk when eaten in concert with the main element. A highly impressive dish - perhaps a little too rich for my indelicate palette!
