Chronicles of an Airport Artist: 6/26/14

Yesterday, while performing at PDX, I met a guitar enthusiast who expressed particular interest in Mertz’s “Elegie”, one of my favorite Romantic pieces. He bought my new DVD and album, and later left this message on my YouTube video of La Catedral.

Ryan, I saw you yesterday at gate C-6 PDX, Portland. A guitar, a stool and mic while my flight 1621 to Long Beach had a one hour delay. The sky over the runway was cloudy and dark. I listened to you play and it was so f…ing beautiful I was overwelmed with joy and sadness. Your passion and talent are a gift from god. Thank you for that moment, and CD, DVD. I will listen to it for the rest of my life.

Another high point of the day came when a dapper gentleman approached and thanked me for the beautiful music. I responded that I was happy he had enjoyed it. And he said, “I hope you enjoy THIS”, and dropped 80 Canadian dollars in my guitar case! I think I can find some way to enjoy that!

We were very lucky to have Ryan play classical guitar for our wedding ceremony, and working with him was absolutely amazing. He was everything you would expect in a trained classical guitarist [...] We would not only recommend him, but will insist that if you are looking for a beautiful, elegant and classical sound, Ryan is the best option you will find.

Ryan was the perfect addition to our wedding day. His song selection was great, his playing flawless, and he was punctual and professional.
