Chronicles of an Airport Artist: 6/26/14
Yesterday, while performing at PDX, I met a guitar enthusiast who expressed particular interest in Mertz’s “Elegie”, one of my favorite Romantic pieces. He bought my new DVD and album, and later left this message on my YouTube video of La Catedral.
Ryan, I saw you yesterday at gate C-6 PDX, Portland. A guitar, a stool and mic while my flight 1621 to Long Beach had a one hour delay. The sky over the runway was cloudy and dark. I listened to you play and it was so f…ing beautiful I was overwelmed with joy and sadness. Your passion and talent are a gift from god. Thank you for that moment, and CD, DVD. I will listen to it for the rest of my life.
Another high point of the day came when a dapper gentleman approached and thanked me for the beautiful music. I responded that I was happy he had enjoyed it. And he said, “I hope you enjoy THIS”, and dropped 80 Canadian dollars in my guitar case! I think I can find some way to enjoy that!
