Lil’ Granny Bunny
It’s been awhile since Little Yarn Friends created something new due to my overwhelming work life. Whenever I picked up my crochet hook, I am already dead tired and I had to catch up with all the lost sleep. Nonetheless, I still tried crocheting a little bit here and there even if it’s just for a short while just to get my little dose of relaxation and satisfaction. I finally had some free time during my little getaway with my family at Capella Sentosa (Singapore) just a few days ago and I’m glad I brought along my crochet projects with me. This post is filled with so many lovely pictures of my latest creation that I took during my stay at the resort, which I’m really excited to share them with you! :)
Let us welcome Lil’ Granny Bunny to the family! Another meaningful creation I made specially for my one an only loving and caring Grandmother. I’ve always wanted to crochet something meaningful for her and I’m glad she made her own request. Here’s what she wants:
- A bunny rabbit
- With long ears
- Size to fit nicely in her hands
- Do not want the bunny to be all white because it will get dirty really fast
I’ve been working on this creation ever since she requested a few weeks ago. I do not have the habit of doodling down my thought process for my creations. Is it a good or bad thing? I usually just picture them in my mind, let my magic wand (crochet hook) lead me and just go with the flow. I kinda like it this way because my final turn out always surprises me. Sometimes it’s pretty similar to the one I had in mind. Sometimes it’s not because I’ve added ideas along the way. And this is how my Lil’ Granny Bunny turned out to be.
I’ve decided to blend Grey and White Yarn to create more contrast to the bunny and also Grey gives an older mature feeling and it doesn’t get dirty easily. Besides my grandma’s requests, I’ve decided to add on some accessories to the bunny so that it resembles her. My grandma loves reading books and the Bible during her free time with her specs placed at the lower half of her nose (just like how the bunny did in the picture). So it inspired me to make a little Bible and old-school spectacles to go with her bunny.
Lil’ Granny Bunny is having her quiet time at the comfy King Size bed at Capella’s Garden Villa Resort. I feel this bunny looks more like a Grandpa than a Grandma. But anyway, I’m really happy with the outcome. :)
“A clone? No it’s just my own reflection."
Lil’ Granny Bunny is taking a stroll in the park early in the morning, enjoying the nice cool breeze the scent of nice smelling flowers.
Peek-ka-boo! Lil’ Granny Bunny is taking a slow jog. It’s always good to keep fit no matter how old or young we are.
On to some work-in-progress Pictures:
A little collage of the individual parts of Lil’ Granny Bunny.
In the process of stitching the parts together.
This is how I made my little book/ little Bible.
- I crochet a little maroon rectangle by using chain, single crochet and turn. And single crocheted around the outer layer to create a neater finish. I used the same method for making the white stripe as the pages in the book. Just that I did not single crochet around the outer layer.
- Sewed the white piece onto one side of the maroon rectangle. (refer to Picture 2 and 3)
- Then I fold the maroon rectangle down and continued sewing the sides. Leaving a small hole (refer to picture 4 and 5), I stuff fiberfill in the book before closing up the hole.
- Added embroidery with white tapestry thread. (I need to work on my embroidery skills. Haha)
Next, i used a piece of left-over "thin wire stem” which I bought to make my Valentine’s Day Roses to make the shape of the spectacles. Bend it to the shape that I want and placed it on the bunny’s face once in awhile to ensure that the specs fits the face nicely. After I’m satisfied with the shape, I cut a few pieces of long maroon yarn a coiled over the thin wire stem. I used a little bit of fabric glue to glue the loose ends to ensure the yarns are secure. Then I fabric glue the eyes onto the face.
Tadaaaa!! Here are some more pictures of Lil’ Granny Bunny. You wouldn’t have guessed where this picture was taken. It’s taken near the outdoor bathtub at our Garden Villa! The picture turns out pretty cool eh? Love the lighting effect.
Pictures of Lil’ Granny Bunny in all different angles. You can finally see her little white tail at the back.
Had some fun with the accessories. Placing the accessories differently gives Lil’ Granny Bunny a whole new character! Does she look like a book worm now? or Harry Potter?
“Hi, I’m Harry Bunny Potter. I can balance a book on my head.”
For the Grand Finale, here’s a picture of my grandma and her Lil’ Granny Bunny sitting nicely on her hands. She really adores this bunny and I’m so happy she loved it! Just want to thank her for all the love she had given me. Love her to bits!
“Here” is the pattern of this bunny. Hope you like it.
