Taking her first solo camping trip at the age of 14 and setting out on a month-long 600km canoe trip through the northern-most point of Ontario, Natasha Wittke was destined to design paddles! Being an artist and keen canoeist has proven to be the perfect formula for designing her cherry wood paddles, which are hand finished in her Montreal-based studio. Named after a tiny Algonquinesque island, nestled in the cool waters of Lake Huron, (where she took that first camping trip) Norquay Co. was launched in 2013 and the combination of Natasha’s Northern heritage and extensive back-country canoeing adventures have played a huge part in the influence of the designs behind each of the paddle series. Though they are not recommended for the rigours of extended wilderness trips, they are great for cruising around lakes on day trips or perfect for gracing your walls at home, or even in your lakeside retreat. With each purchase, you also receive a complimentary handmade leather paddle harness. See more of Natasha’s designs here and follow on Instagram here. Interior images © Leslee Mitchell
