There's something refreshingly human about this photo series by Dutch photographer Janus van den Eijnden.  

He writes to Slate via e-mail: 

"After spending lots of time underground taking photos, I noticed all these subway conductors making long hours underground, looking tired but being friendly to all."

Fun interesting fact: Laid end to end, NYC transit train tracks would stretch from NYC to Chicago.
