5 days, 10 hours until Christmas…

Here are the questions and comments I have received this week! Click “read more” to see the others.

1. Anonymous asked: Which is the worst book you’ve ever read? I mean worst both as in horribly written/horrible story and horrible as in omg-wish-i-didn’t-read-it.

I don’t think I’ve read a book that bad! I generally try to see positives in every book even if I didn’t love it. However, I decided to read the first Gossip Girl book (but I probably should have figured I’d see it differently as a 13 year old than a 20 year old) last year or something and I really thought that was awful. After I had finished, I threw it down in disgust. Another book I really didn’t like was The Vampire Diaries book 1-2. It wasn’t bad as such but I haven’t been that bored reading a book in a long time! I did try reading 3-4 but I couldn’t take it anymore…

2. fractalmind asked: Hi! I just wanted to let you know i’m taking part in the “50 book challenge” starting this January. I don’t consider myself an avid reader, though I do love reading. I hope that this will help improve my reading and writing skills, among other thing. Thanks for making such a wonderful blog.

That’s great! I love taking part in the 50 book challenge (even though the OCD in me really want to wait until January even though it was August when I started… that would have been insane) even if it’s just because I love making lists! I write a review for every book I read, which makes it more interesting too. Good luck with it and thank you for your lovely comment! :)

3. letmeflybymyself asked: *w* you’re blog is so freaking amazing, I just LOVE it ♥

Thank you! :)

4. nicoleinlondon asked: I think the picture of Waterstones you just posted is the one that was by my school!!!

Yes, I think it is! :D Bloomsbury!

5. catherinefaye asked: I love your blog! and how fast you read!!!

Haha, thank you! I didn’t realise I read that fast.

—> Thank you for all your comments to my publishing question!

6. thestoryisold asked: So, my answer to your blog went a bit wrong (probably because like most people in publishing I’m only surface literate in technology!)

But yes, musings on publishing, in the UK at least

a) Only do it if you really really want to. The pay isn’t great, the hours are long.

having said that

b) You will meet some pretty inspiring people. They may also be pretty difficult people. But in the majority, that’s because they care about books

c) Caring about books will help - everyone around you will

d) Don’t be afraid to be judged - stand up for the books you love!

e) Getting a job is hard. Slightly depressingly, one of the best ways to get a job is to intern. I know loads of people who got their job through having been in the right place, at the right time and doing a good job.

f) If you’re doing work experience somewhere, make sure you go the extra mile, ask the extra questions and be extra super helpful. Just not in an annoying way!

It’s loads and loads of fun.

Thank you for your tips/advice! I’m starting an internship in January, so I hope that goes well.

7. smilewritingislove asked: I’m majoring in Writing Arts at Rowan University with a minor in Communications and two concentrations in Creative Writing and New Media. My goal is to edit for either Random House or Penguin. My dream is to be the next Sarah Dessen. =)

I wish you good luck :)

8. queenchristinewrites asked: My belated addition to the kindle discussion:

While I was initially against e-readers, since I love the smell and feel of actual books, I’ve decided that it will really save me money to get one, since a lot of books I need for my Lit classes are on public domain. As far as people who vote for the nook, I like the Kindle because its display is simple and looks more like a page of a book. I don’t need all those flashy extras, so a kindle is a good choice for me. Also, it’s relatively inexpensive and the battery lasts forever. It sort of depends on what you’re looking for, but just thought I’d add my input.

I agree :) I’ll probably get one eventually but I won’t abandon “real” books.

9. callmesyimsyim asked: Instantly fell in love with your Tumblr! :)

Thank you! :)

10. illshineforyou- asked: Do you have a Nook or a Kindle? I’m not sure if I’m gonna get one yet. I need opinions on it.

We can’t get Nooks in the UK but the Kindle seems great. I’ll probably get one eventually. I’d say go for it if you don’t mind the prices for the books and don’t mind not necessarily having a physical copy of everything (you could always get physical copies of books that you loved, which is what I’d do). I got a lot of comments about the Nook too saying it’s great.

P.S. Is your username from Jump Then Fall by Taylor Swift? :)
