Countdown to the Con - The Cigar That Fell In Love With a Pipe: Featuring Orson Welles & Rita Hayworth by David Camus and Nick Abadzis (SelfMadeHero)

Nick Abadzis will be signing The Cigar That Fell in Love with a Pipe at 4:30PM at Comic-Con Booth #1216

See Nick Abadzis in a panel at Comic-Con at 3:00-4:00PM, 28DE, Walking the Line: An Investigation into “Alternative” vs. “Mainstream” Comics and Beyond with Nick Abadzis, Frank Cammuso, Kazu Kibuishi, and Gene Yang.

Is there an overlap between mainstream comics and alternative comics, or is there a clear division? Which genre is speaking to the widest readership? What is the precise state of play between graphic novels sold in bookstores, YA graphic novels, children’s work, art comics, and the mainstream end of the industry—is it all really part of the same spectrum? And with all of the different options available to readers, how do we get a new generation of kids to read comics and keep reading them?

In this panel, Publishers Weekly editor Calvin Reid leads a discussion with graphic novelists Nick Abadzis (author of The Cigar That Fell in Love with a Pipe, Titan’s Doctor Who comic series, and the award-winning graphic novelLaika), Frank Cammuso (author of The Misadventures of Salem Hyde series), Kazu Kibuishi (writer and artist theAmulet series, and editor of the Explorer series) and Gene Yang (author of the graphic novel Boxers & Saints) where they will explore the overlap between mainstream and alternative comics, and the possibility of a greater collaboration between the two. A short Q&A will follow.
