Designing for a Product Company
Recently I’ve been working on building a set of design standards for the company I work for, Zaarly. A design palette we can pull from to quickly build features that are consistent with the rest of our app. This is a pretty common practice. But I soon realized that design standards that are appropriate in the app may not necessarily be appropriate in our marketing materials. The intensions are different. So I began looking around and noticed how other product companies treat their marketing design and their product design. Though they speak to the same brand, the styles and layouts can be very different. So my theory looks something like this:
