The main reason was for King Felipe to address the UN General Assembly and outline Spain’s foreign policy for his reign and lobby for a non-permanent seat at the UN security council in 2015-2016. The King also participated in the Climate Summit organized by Ban Ki-moon and had bilateral meetings with the Presidents of the United States, South Korea, Poland and Tunisia and the King of Jordan. Meanwhile the Queen, as the new honoray president of UNICEF-Spain met UNICEF’s Executive Director and as a participant in the Second International Conference on Nutrition (ICN2) met FAO’s Director General and WHO’s Director General.
