On this day in 1958, Los Angeles Dodgers Orel Hershiser was born in Buffalo, New York. In 1988, “The Bulldog” put together one of the best single seasons in Major League history, when he led the league in wins (23), innings (267), and complete games (15). He finished the season with a record 59 1/3 consecutive scoreless innings and is still the only player to win the Cy Young, the Championship Series MVP, and the World Series MVP in the same season.
