Senator Wicker Poisoning Foiled

Senator Roger Wicker (R-Mississippi) was the target of an apparent ricin poisoning today at the US Capitol, according to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nevada). Senator Wicker has not been injured in the incident, but one of the many capitol mail sorting buildings where the letter was discovered has been evacuated and closed. No one was harmed there. Ricin derives from the Castor oil plant and is very lethal, even in very small doses. This attempted poisoning comes a day after the terrorist attack at the Boston Marathon. The suspect(s) in both incidences are both still on the loose

This isn’t the first time that lawmakers have been targeted with poison. In 2001, an anthrax attack killed five people and injured 17 others when envelopes filled with anthrax spores were sent to various lawmakers and news agencies across the country one week after the September 11th attacks.
