The 2014 Morning New Tournament of Books is nearing its end, and today one of the two Zombie Round matches has been decided. Though Donna Tartt’s beloved The Goldfinch rose from the dead to fight again, it was summarily put back under the ground by James McBride’s irreverent pre-Civil War comedy The Good Lord Bird. Such is the way of the Rooster.
Tomorrow, the last Zombie Round and the penultimate match of the whole Tournament will take place, as our second zombie contender, Kate Atkinson’s Life After Life, will face off against so-far undefeated The People in the Trees by Hanya Yanagihara. Which book will the Rooster favor, and which will be culled? Check back tomorrow to find out.
