Is this made out of stone or some other material? Because holy shit wow that is HUGE.

It is pretty huge, and there’s been a lot of conversation about it in Senegal, especially since the last president’s term/regime and his ideas. When it was released in 2010, so many heads of state were there to unveil it, as well as Akon (who grew up in Dakar!). Some people have argued about the representation of the people on the structure, and how it relates to Islam, prosperity, how North Korea had some funding in the project, and pretty much anything socioeconomic it represents or could be interpreted to represent. It’s made out of metal for the most part and is in between Les Mamelles, these two big hills in the north of Dakar. I got to drive past it a few times, and I was really invested in seeing the spaces and the way spaces were used in the city when I studied there a semester. Also, I could see a blue light in the man’s hat from miles down the peninsula. :)
