Life in the Res Hall

I lived on campus my entire sophomore year, which was my first year at USF. I lived in the Lone Mountain North building in a double. The room was a lot bigger than other rooms I had seen on campus, such as Hayes-Healy or Gilson, but had the same environment. The room included all the same furniture: bed, desk, lamp, dresser, closet, etc. There are plenty of great views that USF residence halls can offer, but I don’t think there is a better view than the Golden Gate Bridge view I had from my room. I was on the top floor and it was basically a million dollar view.

My first semester, my roommate moved out after two weeks because he didn’t like the residence halls. This left me with an extremely large room all to myself for a whole semester at the price of a double! Personally, I really liked having my own room that semester since it was my first semester here and an adjustment period in my life. I was pretty lucky to get my own room like that for a semester. It kind of spoiled me a bit because in the Spring I got a new roommate. It’s definitely hard to go back to sharing a room after you’re used to living by yourself, but I got over it.

My favorite part about living on campus is the convenience. There’s really nothing more convenient than living directly on campus where all your classes and activities are. I would carry a lot less with me back then because I could always just go back to my room if I needed something. The only downside to living in LoMo is having to climb the stairs often, but I got used to it very quickly and it was actually less of a drag going up the hill when I did it regularly. Hiking up the stairs a couple times a week is much harder than doing it several times daily. I built up quite the stamina and sometimes would even go up and down six times in one day.

The convenience of the little food mart in LoMo is great too. I had never lived that close to a place where I can buy food before and it definitely made it easy to always get something to eat. I also spent my flexi too fast so maybe I got a little carried away. Overall though, I’m really glad I got the opportunity to live in LoMo. It really helped ease me into the city life and the USF life.
