Turn leftovers into Spa Products
So have you ever wondered what do to with leftover fruit, diary, or even beer when you no longer want to eat or drink them? Well here are some beauty secrets you can use to put those leftovers to good use!
With help from Terri Trespicio from Martha Stewarts “The Radio Blog” and Alexis Wolfer, founder of thebeautybean.com we’re sharing some awesome DIY spa treatments and the furthest you have to go is to your fridge!
Leftover….
1. Oats!
Turn them into a gentle exfoliant for sensitive skin! Just add some grinded oats with your facial cleanser for the next time you wash your face!
2. Bananas
I personally don’t like when bananas are too-ripe..they are too mushy for me. So this little tip is great for all those that agree! Use a too-ripe banana for an exfoliating and hydrating facial mask for acne-prone and aging skin.mash ½ ripe banana with 2 Tbsp plain Greek yogurt and 1 Tbsp honey and apply to skin, let it sit 5-10 minutes.
3. Egg shells
I actually tried this one this morning and it worked like a charm! To tighten the pores around your nose (or anywhere with enlarged pores) or to tighten up skin around the eyes– swipe your finger along the inside of an egg shell to use the residual egg white! Leave it on while you’re eating your eggs and wash it off when you’re done! Bata boom bata bing, a free pore reducer/eye rivitalizer!
4. Raw potato
We’ve all heard of using cucumber but did you know that potato starch tends to be a good anti-imflammatory agent and with a few potato slices you can have a great eye mask to ease irritated eyes as well! Just place the sliced potato over your eyes and use as a compress.
5. Coffee grounds
Ever wanted to dimish the apperance of cellulite? Well now you can make an exfoliating scrub with your caffeinated leftover coffee grounds. The word on the street (lol) is that caffeine may improve the apperance of cellulite. Take your leftover coffee grounds (or even used and cooled) and mix them with an oil of your choice.
For all my alcohol drinkers out there…
6. Wine
Use leftover wine to make a firming mask. Combine 1 egg white (to firm and tighten fine lines and wrinkles), 3 tablespoons of red wine (for its antioxidant benefits) and honey (to hydrate) and leave on your face for 10-15 minutes before rinsing with warm water.
7. Beer
Use the flat, room-temperature beer as a foot soak! Soaking your feet in this beer helps loosen and remove dead skin cells from your feet!
8. Champagne
A little champagne left in the bottle, don’t pour it out! Use it as a facial toner. Just soak a cotton pad in chilled champagne and wipe thoroughly across a cleansed face and neck. It’s high in antioxidants due to the grape seed extract which packs more vitamin C and E than your average toning and anti-aging products…protecting the skin’s vital collagen and elastin from environmental free radicals and oxidative stress. Just remember that alcohol can be drying, so only use this treatment 1-2 times per week and be sure to follow with moisturizer.
See it’s easy to be Sexy and Green! Everything you need is all around you!
Peace, Lovin, Swipes!
