Rolando Pujol is a journalist who documents stories from the American roadside. He maintains a popular Instagram page that features essays and photography about vintage signs and other slices of Americana. The page has over 96,000 followers.
He maintains The Retrologist, a popular Substack newsletter that showcases his in-depth essays and photography. He is working on a book about his travels across America tentatively scheduled for release in 2025. His work has been featured in gallery exhibits.
He has written about his work for publications like The Washington Post and has been profiled by publications including Atlas Obscura and Neil Patrick Harris’ Wondercade.
Pujol is the executive producer for digital content, innovation and strategy at WABC-TV Channel 7 New York, the No. 1 TV station in the country.
Rolando has helped guide the station into new content areas, including Emmy-winning docuseries that are distributed on Hulu, as well as developed strategies to grow on social platforms. The station recently became the first in New York to reach one million followers on YouTube.
Prior to joining WABC, Rolando spent almost seven years at WPIX-TV Channel 11 New York, helping to develop PIX11’s website and social channels into a highly competitive force in the New York market. He also directed social strategy for Tribune Media’s Antenna TV nostalgia TV network.
At WPIX, Rolando launched the popular WPIX Archives franchise. He discovered the lost original “Yule Log” in 2016, which has aired every year since, and helped program nostalgia programming like “The Honeymooners” marathons and special airings of “The Magic Garden.” He discovered the lost “Magic Garden Christmas” special in 2013, which went on to become a staple of the station’s holiday programming lineup.
