The VIVIENNE TAM Fall Winter 2014 runway show took place in the Theater at Lincoln Center in New York City (#MBFW Feb. 9th 2014). The main collection is inspired by the hidden treasures of Dunhuang, at the heart of the ancient Silk Road, brought into the free, flowing silhouettes of the ‘70s. The ancient cave murals are captured through digital prints and earthy, deep jewel tones of sepia, amethyst, carnelian, lapis lazuli, oxidized and jade green, sometimes interlaced with metallic gold and bronze. Mixed textures of sheer lace, embroidery and embellishments echo the unique patterns in the cave paintings, as well as jacquard knits, bonded two-tone fabrics, lavish brocades, boiled wool, bouclé, and digitally printed sweaters. Rendered in warm, soft fabrics or in comfortable hi-tech materials, the collection is also inspired by the ‘70s - expressed in the pairing of feminine and soft shapes with structured pieces. Complementing the collection were handbags that Vivienne Tam launched on the runway, also evoking the spirit of Dunhuang with a rich color palette of navy and oxblood with abstract prints, from rich celadon and eggplant shades in solids with hints of paper lotus prints, swirling and geometric clouds. The satin gold hardware as seen on clasps, chains, and zippers add a luxe touch to the contemporary designs with traditional Asian patterns rendered in both classic and avant-garde shapes.
