The latest welcome addition to Micklegate sees the failed Bohemia bar completely refitted and metamorphosed into a cool and contemporary pub and sports bar by Amber Taverns. The large single bar remains, refitted to look like filling cabinets and dominating the airy room. But this time around all that space is well used with at least 8 real ale pumps amongst the usual lagers and ciders. The prices are good considering the range and the staff friendly and knowledgeable. This is the epitome of the modern sports bar, a great mix of good beers and loads of TV screens; they seem to pop up from every surface. There are even semi-private booths with their own sets and ample seating along the windows splits the large room up into nicely defined areas. Their appeal definitely caters towards the sport enthusiast but this does not make it exclusively a sports bar, there seemed to be good mix of clientele enjoying the atmosphere. The eclectic mix of décor is a rather mismatched blend of old and new with LED lighting and a strong presence of lime green; it works in places, but not always. The toilets are a little basic as is the outside area, just a small yard with some cover for smokers, but it’s all quite functional. We would say this is probably the best place in York to watch sport and enjoy some good quality beer.
