Conspiracy

This story is the one I was telling you all about, it is inspired by a documentary on Secret Societies.  My question to all my fellow Miss Fisher fans should I continue it?

Jack leaned back in his chair shaking his head, “I don’t believe in conspiracy theories.”

Phryne casually lifted her feet up and propped them up on his desk replying, “Neither do I.”

“Then what is this all about?”

“A killer who does believe in them.”

Jack tilted his head slightly to the right and raised an elegant eyebrow, “Where do you get your information, Miss Fisher?”

“An old friend,” replied Phryne with a wicked smile.

Jack rolled his eyes, shaking his head, “Wonderful.”

Phryne rose gracefully walked to her favorite perch on his desk and leaned close so no one could hear, “I have absolutely no interest in old friends any longer, you know that.” Jack shrugged his shoulders and she gently traced his jawline, “I made a promise to you.  And I always keep my promises.”

Jack’s quirky grin that Phryne loved so much fought its way onto his face and her eyes reflected triumph when she caught it. He reached out and took her hand, looked up at her nodding.  "I do know that.  So what did this…old friend say?“

"He says there is an off shoot of his secret society that has taken things too far.  His older brother was sucked into it.  He has now disappeared and he is very worried that he is dead. Also the poor man that was found in the Yarro a few weeks ago has sacrificial scars and he is so afraid…”

“How does he know that?”

“He is rather…he is part of the Victorian Establishment…”

“What?!”

“Yes, that is why he came to me, but I want your help because this crosses so many lines, please believe me …”

“Oh I believe you, Phryne.  I now know who your friend is and his brother.”

“You do?”

Jack nodded, his brow creased and he now looked worried.  "Yes, I do.  And if its what I think it is, it is very dangerous.  It is not just a conspiracy theory but it is a threat to our government.  It will be very dangerous and…“  

"Exactly!”

“Phryne, are you thinking of challenging them by yourself?”

“No, I want us to stop them as partners…”

Jack reached up and cupped her cheek, he whispered softly, “we are always partners, Darling.  But this is so very dangerous.”

“We can do it!”

“We could get killed!”

“No, we won’t we will beat them.”

“Phryne Fisher the woman who can do anything?” Jack asked her with an admiring grin.

“And Detective Inspector Jack Robinson, my equal partner, which means you can do anything too.”  She said as her hand captured his against her cheek glad that the doors to his office were both closed and locked.

He smiled at her, bringing her gently to him and kissing her tenderly.  Then when he pulled back he said, “Hardly, I am not really in your class.”

“Of course you are, we are equals!  Will you do it?”  She asked, she was breathing quickly and her eyes were bright and hopeful.

Jack closed his eyes and cursed softly.  Then he looked at her and said, “I think this idea is as crazy as you are. But then so am I.  Lets get the SOB’s!”

Phryne jumped off the desk and sat in his lap, “That is my Jack!”  Then she pulled him to her and kissed him passionately.  Jack kissed her back pulling her close.
