Behind the scenes: Microfilm repair and duplication in St. Louis—part 2
This video clip shows an ultrasonic splice of two segments of film. You’ll notice the splicer makes two passes, the first applies heat, the second applies focused ultrasonic energy (sound waves!) to lap seam the two sections. This creates an adhesive-free, strong bond between the two film sections.
