I’m attending a wedding today, and with a high of 96° F, I expect to wear pretty much the same outfit I’m wearing above, chatting with my then-pregnant wife as captured by the photographer at the last wedding I attended. The suit is a cotton-linen one from Lands’ End, the shirt is Ralph Lauren Purple Label, the tie is a silver grenadine from Drake’s, and the square is from Kent Wang.
As it happens, this morning Lands’ End added the suit back to their website after a long absence. It’s in their “On the Counter” section, which gradually reduces the price of an already on-sale item over the course of the week until it’s 75% off on Friday. That would make this jacket just $33 if there are any left by the end of next week.
You can see in the picture my one qualm with the suit: the low armholes make for an awkward and inelegant bump in the shoulder line when you raise your arm. Good clothes should fit when you move. That said, the suit has served me well over the course of two hot summers, and I otherwise am quite happy with it. The fit is slim, the shoulders snug and unpadded, and it really does keep you relatively cool in hot, hot weather. I’d recommend it at the current price, and certainly at a further-discounted price.
As I noted earlier in the week, the accompanying trousers are also steeply discounted ($29), but the navy is sold out online so you’ll need to call in and ask about their “pre-hemmed stock.”
“On the Counter” merchandise generally has limited sizing and sells out really fast, so I’d check now to see if the jacket is available in your size.
