You can cosplay who you want.

Shape, size, race, gender, whatever, it doesn’t matter, but I do know that this is not easy. I mean, you all follow me, you’ve seen me have complete break downs over the fact that I do not have the body shape I want, and I really can’t pull off being Captain America. But you know what, I will make it happen. I will make it so that I can be Captain America, because I want to be him. I will redesign and redesign and redesign again until I’ve worked out how to do that because that is what cosplaying is about, working out how to be who want despite what you look like. It’s about making the impossible and the implausible real.

I have bad days, everyone has bad days, and there will be people who kick you in the face on those bad days, heck, there are people who will kick you on your good days until your day is shitty, but they are fucking twats and they don’t deserve your anger.They are judgmental, horrible, selfish people and they aren’t worth anyone’s time because they are the minority. Do you know how I know this? Because my Hawkeye costume, the costume that I moan and moan and moan about because I don’t think I look manly enough in it was nominated for Best Male Costume of the year on the Superhero Costuming Forum. They respected that although I have a female body, a smaller, lighter frame and all the comes with it, that because I was presenting as male in that costume that it was as male as it needed to be and it’s things like that, that make me realize that I can be Captain America. 

Never, ever think that you can be anything other that what you want to be because if you start thinking like that then you will be letting the shitty people win. You will giving in, and that is worse than trying and failing. Try or you will never know what you can achieve.

If you’re a cosplayer, take these words to heart. Hell, take them to heart regardless, because the sentiment goes beyond costuming.
