An Overview of Dress for Success by Adele Sammarco
Located in Midtown Manhattan, Dress for Success is a non-profit organization dedicated to encouraging the economic growth and success of disadvantaged women. Primarily, the charity collects donated professional attire and helps women achieve and maintain employment through the provision of career-appropriate clothing. Each client of Dress for Success receives one suit when she attains an interview, and if she accepts a position, she can come back for more clothes as needed.
As the organization grew, further insight developed as to what was needed to support such career transitions, and the Professional Women’s Group (PWG) was established. PWG provides ease to the transition from unemployment to employment, giving women ongoing support for the entirety of their careers. The Career Center associated with the charity offers career guidance and technology classes. Since 1997, the non-profit has offered its services to more than 550,000 women across the globe and is consistently given a four-star rating from Charity Navigator.
