Bubble Tea in New York City
When I moved here, I made it my goal to track down the best bubble tea in the city. I have yet to complete that goal, but I thought I’d share my progress so far.
Kung Fu Tea was one of the first places I was introduced to. My favorite thing about this place is that they encourage you to customize the level of ice, sugar, and tapioca in your tea. Sadly, they seem to have switched to granulated sugar instead of syrup, which makes for an unusual texture. It began as a 5/5, but until they fix the sugar problem, I’d place it around 3/5.
Just Sweet is not a dedicated bubble tea establishment, which is reflected in the tea. Not much else to say about this one. Overall 3/5.
TKettle happens to be right next to my favorite falafel place, Mamoun’s. Good drinks, but they give you lots of sugar and tapioca. If I were to go back, I’d see if they could tone it down a bit. Overall 4/5.
Saint’s Alp is by far my favorite place to go for bubble tea. They have a wide variety of drinks (both in flavor and preparation), and they’ve got a ratio of tea to sugar and tapioca just to my liking. My favorites are the Black Tea with Milk, and the Taro Sorbies. Overall 5/5.
