I made a donation to this project today.  Billions of people in developing countries cannot access the wealth of knowledge available in the web because internet access is too expensive, unreliable, or simply nonexistent to be of much help. The WiderNet eGranary project has been bringing off-line knowledge to hundreds of universities and organizations in dozens of developing countries for the past 15 years via a vast collection of digital materials packed into hard drives with its own interface for searching the contents of the eGranary Digital Library. Now WiderNet is launching a new initiative that will pack more specialized collections of materials into portable microchips.  One of these may include, for example, a collection of content on the international disability treaty (Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, CRPD) that disability rights advocates could use to help promote better legislation and increased accessibility and inclusion for people with disabilities in their country.  I want this to become reality, which is why I contributed to WiderNet’s eGranary Pocket Library “Indiegogo” fundraiser campaign. I know not everyone can give something, but for those who can I hope you will consider this cause among your options.
