Just heard that comix legend Spain Rodriguez passed away today. I’m on the road, but just want to say RIP. Thoughts are with his family. I’ll put together a bunch of posts tomorrow, but for the time being you can check out my previous posts of his artwork. I’ve heard a lot about this guy but never got around to reading his stuff. Sad that it sometimes takes a death to motivate one to see what all the fuss is about.

Tom Spurgeon was lovely enough to link to me and Laura’s comic on the Comics Reporter when I asked him if he could. He’s extremely open about doing these kinds of things so it’s not like I’m in any kind of exclusive club; I’m just very happy that something I did is on one of my very favorite websites. 

I’m really, really happy that the alt.comix community is so willing to take a look at and pass around stuff like this; Laura is hella known in these circles but I’m kind of an unknown quantity, so the fact that everyone is like “sure yeah we’ll put your comic up” with no questions asked is really warming. Thank you.

I remember this one girl I used to date just wouldn’t grip onto any comics I showed her-I tried everything from Jim Woodring to Hard Boiled to Solanin-but the one thing she had an unabashedly positive reaction to was Abandon the Old in Tokyo. That’s no real kind of metric of quality, but Tatsumi had an ability to represent life that I think most other artists would kill for. RIP to one of the great innovators of the form.
