Games Developer Accused of Being CIA Spy Receives Death Sentence
An Iranian games developer for Kuma Reality Games, Amir Hekmati, has been accused by the Iranian government as working for the CIA and now faces the death penalty.
Kuma have worked on a variety of free to download PC titles. Hekmati was accused of creating games and movies that were aimed to ‘manipulate public opinion in the Middle East.
The former US Marine was arrested when he was visiting family in Iran whilst working on a language toolset for soldiers which received a grant of $95,000 from the Department of Defence.
Hekmati features in this video 'confession’ which was aired on Iranian State TV in which he 'admitted’ that the company was trying to convince people that whatever the US did in foreign countries was for a good cause. Note the quotation marks around confession!
The US government is calling for Hekmati’s immediate release back to the US and stands against the Iranian government in clearing his death sentence.
