Mary Lou Retton competes on the balance beam during the 1984 Summer Olympics at Pauley Pavilion in Los Angeles. Retton would win five medals at the 1984 Games - one gold (All-Around), two silver (Team, Vault) and two bronze (Uneven bars, Floor). Much like Retton in 1984, Gabby Douglas and the entire U.S. Women’s Gymnastics team has become one of the most popular American teams competing in the summer Olympics. (Neil Leifer/SI)
