It feels good to be moved to tears by something other than a silly boy. Something inside my heart is stirring to seek educational equality in our country’s school systems. I just had a disheartening conversation with my mother about the state of the Dekalb County school system. It breaks my heart to hear that these classrooms aren’t even equipped with proper material for the students to thrive in their learning environments. And the fact that the majority of these deprived students are Black makes my stomach turn. These poorly funded school systems, not only in GA, but across the nation are only continuing the cycle of oppression towards the minority and impoverished communities. I never truly realized how blessed I was to receive a decent education and to have basic materials (books, technology, etc) to aid in my learning process. I wouldn’t be where I am today without my education. I feel like I owe it to our youth to give them the same opportunities.
