MAN vs. CHILD

I'm Doug Moe, a comedian from the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre. This is my blog about the insanity of being a dad.

My book, Man vs. Child: One Dad's Guide to the Weirdness of Parenting is out now in a revised second edition!

MISSING “INSIDE OUT” CHARACTERS

I saw Inside Out for Father’s Day with my wife and 9-year old daughter.  I bawled my eyes out.  This is really Pixar at its best.  It was so poignant and it really resonated with my growing awareness that my daughter’s inner life continues to change as she gets older, becoming more inscrutable.  The main character’s inner emotional life is controlled primarily by Joy at first, but as she gets older Sadness, Anger, Fear and Disgust start to play bigger and bigger parts in her life.  This neatly portrays the real growth of complexity in my own daughter’s life.  Amazing.

To nitpick just a bit, I might add several more emotions to the mix of characters.  Here’s a few emotions that I think are in every child’s inner life: Hangry, Idonwanna and Dillydally.
