Vocalist Jimmy Scott R.I.P.

Little Jimmy Scott had a remarkable if spotty career. A success in the early ‘50s, Scott became a staple in the Savoy Records roster, but his popularity waned in the ‘60s despite the fact that artists heavily influenced by Scott like Nancy Wilson were on the rise. He was brought back to recording over the next few decades on Atlantic, and Sire among other labels. His champions included Joel Dorn, Doc Pomus, Lou Reed and David Lynch among others. Recognition was glacially slow in coming for Scott but it did come in stages right up until his death at the age of 88 on June 12.
