I wouldn’t worry so much about that attitude. Sure, it’s a message that someone could get from the material if they wanted, but they could also believe that because Steve Rogers is white, he’s automatically right. People will believe what they want.

Also, considering what Rodgers DOES with his privilege (protect the innocent and defend justice) kind of outweighs what toxic origin some might glean.Bruce Wayne is a rich, white man who helps others less fortunate.

But that’s not my point at all at all.

What I’m saying- or at least what I’m trying to say, I may be fucking it up completely- is that this is a space that is uninviting to women, and it’s incredibly important to think about why the space is uninviting, so that we can understand it even if we can’t counteract it.

It’s impossible NOT to worry about that attitude, honestly, when we’re confronted with it day in and day out. And I’d rather think about what’s behind it than just accept it because Steve Rogers himself turned out to be a good, worthy guy.

I mean, Steve Rogers is also cool with the existence of a black Captain America, and would be first in line to get a ticket to a movie headlined by a non-white superhero. If Steve Rogers lived in our world he would probably right this very minute be painting a classy sign arguing for Janet Van Dyne to not be fridged in Ant-Man to hold up at ComicCon. I’m not really concerned about what Steve Rogers does with his privilege. I’m concerned about what readers with the same privilege assume about themselves when they see him, subconsciously or not, and what that does to the community as a result.
