Those of you wanting tasting notes on this ten year anniversary wine that I celebrated with tonight will not be disappointed with this 2005 Barolo. @fabrifrancone When you open a ten year old wine, you are never sure because Nebbiolo has it’s own rules and it likes a long lie down (a bit like me ) it could be corked or be austere as some Barolos are. I had recently opened a bordeaux of the same vintage it was corked.
What a nice surprise then when I opened this 2005 Francone #Barolo to discover that it had aged well in my own home cellar. Occasions had come and gone when I could have opened it with friends.
So it was that we opened it on the 10th anniversary of our house we had bought it and moved in in 2005.

As I removed the cork and smelled it. All seemed well (winemaker breathes a sigh of relief) because we had paired it with a nice Piemontese steak and a rucola and trevisiano salad I was full of expectation.

The Francone2005 Barolo on the nose was Bright and lively with cut grass, soil, cherry and a wonderful custard tart note (absent was the dreaded oaky caramel)
On the palate the ripe cherry, juicy and still slightly tart. With a nice long finish on the mid palate some raspberry and on the finish that nice custard raspberry tart. The wine is smooth and finessed and seductive with notes of cigar box and leather. It responed equally well to our juicy steak and salad and the raspberries and Greek yogurt dessert much later. This wine was not resealed and put aside for tomorrow. We enjoyed every last drop as should you.
Whilst the 2004 is said to be the king of Nebbiolos , this Barolo 2005 from Francone in Nieve #langhe near Alba proves that 2005 is very fine. #barolo #barolo2005 #francone #piemonte #piemontewine #nieve #winefood #winelife #wine #winestagram #winelife #winelifestyle #winelovers #finewine #Alba #Piedmont (at Italy)
