In Peter Turnley’s Paris, there is no unruly traffic, no labor strikes and no waiting in lines.
There is, instead, a city of romance, smoke-filled cafes and furtive glances consummated with a passionate embrace and a kiss. It is a place essentially unchanged from the days when his heroes Cartier-Bresson, Brassai. Kertesz, Boubat and Doisneau roamed the streets capturing the essence of Paris. It is a world that might seem quaint in the Instagram era, but one that Mr. Turnley insists still exists despite modern challenges.
“The romance, love, beauty, tenderness and humor that one can find in Paris are absolutely not moments of the past,” he said. “They are moments of the present, and they continue and are timeless and they endure.”
