Arete Media Collection Preview
An Inspiration for “Aquatic Living”
Arete Studio is a Shanghai based womenswear brand that has been founded in 2013 by Catherine Fung.
Her designs are inspired by her formative years in New York, London and Paris to master and understand technical craftsmanship.
Interviewing Fung, this season’s inspiration for the collection comes from her time exploring deep seas and discovering the aquatic wildlife ecosystem from sailing to scuba diving she viewed sea creatures that inhabit the world’s oceans and run the full spectrum of colors—often in intricate patterns, advanced camouflage, and varying degrees of transparency. Indeed, looking at this seasons collection we can indeed see a connection of “aquamarine” influence with the “reflecting” hand woven leather combined with metallic elements, knitwear, silk deep blues, fish like woven stripes and some transparent light weight draping.
“Arete is inspired for modern women who are elegant but always in control” says Fung, “They portray a balance between hard and soft, strong and graceful, feminine and masculine”.
