yagazieemezi:

In Nigeria, I never did learn how to balance anything on my head and goodness, I really did try! But my father forbade us from it. You see, my father had done the same thing as a child; balanced heavy buckets and jerry cans of water on his head as one of his chores. Being the tender giant that he is, he once told me that he hated seeing children carrying loads on their heads and didn’t want to see his own children doing the same. (Personally, I thought it had to do with my father’s ‘status’ as a doctor and not having any of his status-obsessed colleagues see us doing such, welp). Still, I have always admired the mental and physical strength it takes to do so.
