So I'm a fairly new dad, I have a 6 month old son. I'm also a new husband and have a crazy ass demanding career. Struggling to strike a balance between dad/husband/employee/self - not enough hours in the day type thing. Were you able to strike a balance at all? Got any tips?

No, I was not able to strike a balance and I have no tips. None of my own, anyway.

From the people who claim to have found some sort of balance, the common theme seems to be that it constantly shifts, meaning sometimes you’ll need to devote more time to your work and other times you may need to devote more time to your kids. My problem as a work-at-home father of twins was these both happened at the same time. It’s why I literally had to go to therapy.

The other thing is, even if you do feel like you’ve found a true balance, it’ll change anyway as your child develops and his needs change. So… uh… good luck.

If you’d like to see what other, far more together dads say about finding balance, the how2beadad guys compiled a nice list of advice on the topic from other dads.

Oh, and congrats on becoming a dad! Let me know if you want me to recommend a therapist.
