1. Video of the day: Google’s voice translating phone.

    Google’s experimental new feature is called ‘Conversation Mode’, and is able to work as a translator between any of the 57 languages that the web-based 'Google Translate’ can currently translate between. By combining 'Google Translate’ (the software that currently converts language on web sites) with 'Google Voice Actions’ (which you may have used on your iPhone), any smart phone could be used as a translator with this program.

    As you can see in the video though, this is still early stages - the German man takes three goes to get one sentence translated correctly - and you can bet that the first generation of this technology will frequently have these kind of problems. It will be exciting though to see how further generations of this software will be able to adapt and learn new dialects and accents.
