Electronic ring lets computers identify users by their touch.

A prototype device created at Rutgers University transmits tiny voltage bursts through your skin from an electronic ring, which can be picked up and identified by a touchscreen to identify who is using it. The device works with traditional touchscreens as they are already designed to detect voltage changes from fingers touching and moving across the screen.

The technology could allow games to distinguish between multiple players using the same screen in a game, or to provide an additional layer of protection to passwords.

The team hopes to commercialize the system within two years.
