Edge becomes biggest crowdfunding campaign of all time.
The Ubuntu Edge smartphone promises to be the world’s first ‘convergence device’, allowing users to use the device either as an Android or Ubuntu based smartphone, while also connecting a monitor, keyboard and mouse to become a fully fledged Ubuntu desktop PC - more details and specs here.
At the time of writing the Indiegogo based crowdfunding campaign has reached over US$11.5 million in pledges, which puts it past the previous top crowdfunded project which was the Pebble smartwatch at just over $10 million. Unfortunately for backers of the Edge it looks clear that they won’t reach their $32 million goal, even with the phones now at a discounted price of $695 to try and entice more backers.
If you’d like to check out the campaign and pledge your support you’ve got until August 21 so check it out here.
