Second Period Notes: BOS @ CAR

Penalty Kill Comes up Big… Again
The second period featured a lot of back and forth action, and saw the B’s kill three penalties, including a 5-on-3 early in the period, when the Bruins got caught with too many men on the ice and Bergeron went off for hooking. The B’s killed it though, and are now 22-for-22 on the PK this season.

Putting on a Clinic
Nathan Horton got his second goal of the season 15:52 into the second - by putting on a clinic for all in attendance. The forward danced his way from the left wing side, through the neutral zone, and up the right wing, undressing three Carolina defensemen in the process before dangling on Cam Ward. The Canes netminder went for the poke-check, but Horton’s patience paid off and he was able to place it right under the crossbar on Ward’s short side. Beautiful.

Turnovers Plague B’s
Two turnovers in the B’s zone led to Carolina’s two goals in the second period that tied it up. Jeff Skinner picked up the loose puck after the first turnover and Khudobin didn’t have much of a chance on the sniper. The second came after a failed clear, and Semin fed Eric Staal cutting right to the front of the net - another tough one for Anton to stop.

Multi-Point Night for Big Zee
Amidst all of scoring tonight with the game knotted at 3-3 heading into the third, it’s worth noting that Chara has a three-point night so far, with a power-play goal and two assists. The Captain led all B’s with 16:08 of ice time heading into the final frame.
