So these biologists did this study where they tested how well anole lizards can jump off flexible perches. Flexible perches like, you know, branches, which lizards hang out on in the wild all the time.
Turns out that when they jump from something bendy, the lizards misjudge when to push off. Then the perch recoils and hits them in the rear, leading to the ridiculous display of maladaptive motion above.
An animal that jumps off stuff a lot but is actually kind of terrible at jumping? Great work, evolution.
