No, he didn’t flat out say that. His comments may have been even less tactful. An exerpt from an interview with EDGE magazine:
“[These are] the sort of people who, for example, might want to watch a movie. They might want to go to Disneyland. Their attitude is, ‘okay, I am the customer. You are supposed to entertain me.’ It’s kind of a passive attitude they’re taking, and to me it’s kind of a pathetic thing. They do not know how interesting it is if you move one step further and try to challenge yourself [with more advanced games].
He called them pathetic! Even I wouldn’t go that far.
Whether we’re to believe that Nintendo is going 100% hardcore remains to be seen. There’s a Starfox game in the works, but Metroid is still dead and buried and F-Zero hasn’t seen the light outside of Smash Bros. for almost two gaming generations now. [❤]
